Meanwhile Opportunities
The Royal Docks is also home to a range of sites and spaces with potential for temporary and meanwhile uses, from culture and events to production, food and other creative ideas.
Current Meanwhile Spaces include:
Big Fridge (at Compressor House) which transforms a historic, 5,000 sq ft former cold store into a vibrant, multi-purpose venue for culture, creative production, and community events.
The Factory Project which reclaims a massive 100,000 sq ft industrial site—a former Tate & Lyle Sugars warehouse complex—turning it into flexible creative workspace, studios, and film production facilities.
Tipping Point East Supported by the Royal Docks team, demonstrates how temporary site activation can scale zero-waste innovation, reclaim construction resources, and build local green skills.
The nature of spaces at the Royal Docks
The Royal Docks is embarking on an exciting new chapter, with over £8bn being invested in the area over the next 20 years. At over 1,200 acres of land, with 250 acres of water and nearly 12 miles of waterfront, the area is the most important and most exciting regeneration project in London. Uniquely, it is also the meeting point of two growth corridors, an Opportunity Area, and London’s only Enterprise Zone, making it poised for rapid growth.
There’s a vibrant network of businesses taking advantage of affordable and flexible office space with a strong industrial footprint attracting a range of tech industries. These areas will set the scene for iconic commercial developments at Silvertown, Royal Albert Dock and Albert Island, facilitating thousands of new jobs.
