London Cable Car

London Cable Car

See London from a different perspective

Rise above the Thames and see the Royal Docks from the sky. Connecting Royal Victoria with Greenwich Peninsula, the London Cable Car combines a river crossing with one of the capital’s most distinctive sightseeing experiences.

A London journey unlike any other

The cable car opened on 28 June 2012, ahead of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games. The UK’s first and only urban cable car, it has since become a landmark in its own right. In August 2026, Transport for London announced that it had carried 20 million passengers.

Cabins climb to heights of up to 90 metres above the Thames, revealing the scale of the docks, the curve of the river and the changing skyline of east London. Look out for The O2, Canary Wharf and the Thames Barrier, and enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the waterfront below. A crossing takes less than 15 minutes, with journey times varying according to operating conditions.

Make the journey part of your day out

Take a one-way trip to explore the opposite bank or choose a return journey to enjoy the views in both directions. For an extra sense of adventure, the Glass Floor Experience offers a view straight down towards the river. Special experiences also include a Champagne Experience, while family activities and seasonal events add to the programme.

On the Royal Docks side, combine your trip with a waterfront walk, a visit to City Hall or an experience at Immerse LDN. Across the river, Greenwich Peninsula offers The O2 and places to eat, explore and enjoy the Thames.

Royal Docks terminal: close to Royal Victoria DLR. Greenwich Peninsula terminal: close to North Greenwich Underground. Wheelchair users and cyclists can travel. Check operating hours, ticket options and weather-related service updates before setting out.
